The title of this post is just an idea and an implying suggestion: Telecom firms should give subscribers the option to receive political text campaigns or not.

Receiving unwanted campaign texts during the May election is irksome for some people. (Who wants to hear a beeping cellphone only to see a text message from a senator-wannabe when you are beating a deadline due in 20 minutes or washing the dishes?)

But for others, especially those who take pleasure bragging their “excuse me po, may message ka” sms ringtone, the campaign period is the best time to put their cellphones into use. Just a word of advice though: Do not vote for political candidates because they (appear to) text you! Know who they really are and what they can do for you and our country.

Telecom firms should be sensitive to these different needs of their subscribers. It would be best to give subscribers the option to receive text by allowing them to submit their names in a spammers directory (lol) or offering them a spam filtering service (which I think would be quite challenging considering the performance of yahoo with spams).

If these options are already available (and I just do not know they exist), please do tell me and I shall be activating these services (provided they are free) before the start of the campaign period.
