E passport Philippines
The Philippine DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) already announced the e-passport Philippines but how does it differ from the regular machine-readable passport (MRP) passport? An epassport is a high tech passport with a built in microchip that stores information / data about the passport holder. It generally has the same features as a regular passport but identification and biometric data are being stored in a small RFID computer chip which makes the document less susceptible to tampering. E passports are also said to have an additional page intended to contain the passport’s microchip.
How to Apply for an E-passport
The Philippine inquirer reports that issuance of e passport will be available for Filipino diplomats and officials starting October but regular Filipino travelers can apply for the e passport by December this year. Because of the technology used and its more promising security features, application for an e passport in the Philippines is more expensive than applying for a regular passport.
