Defensor, TU, the Comelec and GMA
Team Unity senatorial bet and GMA’s loyal ally Mike Defensor has conceded defeat in the senatorial elections yesterday. The move seems to be an effort to bring out the message that the admin does not cheat this election. Mike Defensor is the representation of the Arroyo administration and accepting his defeat give out the message that there would be no dagdag bawas in favor of the TU candidates.
Defensor’s move seem to be a very helpful way for the admin to score “pogi points” amid the maguindanao poll crisis and hello Garci 2 speculations. Defensor’s decision made him more of a leader than a loser because it showed his willingness to sacrifice
- for the Team Unity because his decision alleviates the cheating image that has been built up against the administration;
- for the Comelec because accepting his defeat nullifies notion among many people of a comelec-admin extra special ties. More importantly Defensor becomes heroic
- to many Filipino people who would have to suffer because of the delaying tactics many losing candidates often resort to in the hope of winning in the senatorial race.
Defensor, his iconic loyalty and this exemplary move MINUS Gloria Arroyo would have made him an outstanding leader even among anti GMA electorates.
