Cesar Montano replaces Petilla in Admin Senatorial Slate

February17

Actor Cesar Montano replaces Leyte Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla after the latter sought re-election in his home province. GMA endorsed Montano as “promoter of culture and tourism” (GMA news).

Why Montano?

Montano was chosen because the actor is a member of Lakas party and he is known in the Visayas.

According to Sec. Joseph Ace Durano, Team Unity spokesoman, two factors were considered. First, “under our laws, since Gov. Petilla is under Lakas, the substitute must be a Lakas [member]” and second, “when the candidates of Team Unity were chosen, the main considerations were mainly the capability and credibility of a particular candidate in advocating the platform of government… Governor Petilla’s role was to do this in the Visayas… Cesar Montano, who expressed interest [to run], fits both qualifications” (ABSCBN News).

politics for politicians and films and other bullshit for celebrities

i have nothing against celebrities running for public office…its just that our politics is garbage enough without them(celebrities) messing it up… if they really want to help the filipino people they should be donating theyre own money (w/c they have a lot)to those who need it most…

You have a point Leo Rex. Joining the ranks of politicians is not always the best (and not the only) means to serve the people. Celebrities who are not competent enough to make sensible legislations would be better off establishing foundations that will help the people or finance the education of poor Filipinos.
