Canelar Barter Center

Malong is perhaps the most popular pasalubong from people who come from Zamboanga City. The Malong is a colorful piece of cloth popularly worn by Muslim people. Malongs, however, have evolved to be used as some sort of towels or blankets by those who prefer not to use them as part of their clothing. Since I was in Zamboanga last week, I made it a point to visit this place where people said to buy beautiful and cheap malongs. The place turns out to be Canelar Barter Center.

Canelar Barter center is indeed a good place to shop for malongs, batik and souvenir shirts. I actually bought malong bath robes for my husband and son. There were also those batik tie dye shirts and ternos. Most stalls also sell shirts from Indonesia.

This is me. The dress I’m holding obviously does not fit me. I am looking for a batik dress for my sister in law

Aside from the Malong and Batik, there were those grocery goods sold at Canelar. The type of goods you seldom see in Philippine malls and groceries because they are primarily imported from nearby countries such as Malaysia. There were big toblerone chocolates, shampoos, candies. Just check out the photos to see what kind of grocery goods you can buy from Canelar Barter Center.
